Not Allowed to Save Plugin Presets

I recently swapped out my internal HDD for an SSD, and in doing so I decided to just start fresh with my 2012 MacBook Pro since it is a bit older. The transition went very smoothly, the machine running amazingly well for being 8 years old, and I'm super happy overall. During all this, I also updated my OS to 10.14.6 and Logic Pro X to 10.5. Since the new start, I haven't been able to save plugin presets or defaults in the plugin window, the options of doing so are grayed out. If the plugin itself has it's own preset menu, then I can save to that, but I prefer using Logic's preset menu if that makes sense. To me it seems like some sort of folder or file path issue, but I have no idea where to look and it's surprisingly inconvenient for my workflow.

It sounds like your talking about third-party plugins (based on the AU format) and not the internal Logic Plugins. In that case the location for those presets is different (~/Library/Audio/Presets/) for most third-party plugins.

Check if that default folder is already there, if not just create it. It could be a permission issue which gets more tricky with Catalina (and all its security measures).

Here is a diagram from my book "Logic Pro X - How it Works"

Another question, when save a Plugin Preset, do you do that from the Setting Menu on the Plugin Window or from the Library Browser?

When you have the Library Browser open on the left side of the Logic Main Window and slick to the left of the blue Plugin Slot Button of the corresponding Plugin, then the blue Library Focus Triangle appears. That means, the Library Browser shows the Plugin Settings of that Plugin. When you click the "Save..." button in the lower-right corner of the Library Browser, it should open the Save Dialog with the Finder location pre-selected (~/Library/Audio/Presets/).

Hope that helps,
