DNS servers automatically changing

Every few week I am not able to connect to the internet anymore.

Strangely the DNS servers got changed by themselves!

When I change them back (in the network/advanced settings) to, for instance, 8.8.8.8 internet returns instantly.

I always have a strong wifi connection at home and using Catalina 10.15.5 Beta (19F94a)

Does anyone knows what could cause the automatic change of the DNS servers?

Why are you running a VPN? The only reason to use a VPN is to create a tunnel to a private network like your work or school network. Public VPNs do nothing for you and they route all your data through their servers then dump it onto the Internet on route to its final destination. This is no different than you sending it yourself. They can do anything with your data. A VPN does mask your location so some people in countries where Internet is censored use these VPN services.
