AirPods only play from one side on MacBook

Each time I use my AirPods (1st gen) on my 2019 15" MacBook Pro it only plays from the right headphone. The AirPods work perfectly fine on both my iPhone and my watch, I've tried forgetting the AirPods and pairing them to my computer but that hasn't fixed it. I'm running out of ideas and its very frustrating!!!
