Where and what kind of recovery disk do I get for my Mac 7 desktop?
And those discs and diskettes were typically distributed with the computer. If you gave us the age of the computer, we could probably tell you what was distributed with it. What is the model number on the machine's front or back?
Most Macs were also compatible with later "retail" release diskettes/CDs up to a certain point depending on the hardware limitations of the computer. Macs can only work with the diskettes/CDs that shipped with them and newer retail releases.
Retail releases did not say on their label:
Update, Upgrade, OEM, or a model name on them.

It all depends on what type of Macintosh you have. macOS 7.0 - 7.5.5 for the MC68000 was distributed on 3.5-inch diskettes. macOS 7.1 - 7.6 for PowerPC was distributed on optical discs.
