Can employers look at my device if I add my work e-mail to it?

If I add my work e-mail (Gmail Business account) to my phone, or to a Mac, can my employer see anything about my device?

  • Location
  • My personal e-mails (from accounts other than my work address)
  • Apps on my phone
  • What's on my screen
  • Anything else that I should know about or might get me in trouble

Once you add work-related information to your iPhone, your employer generally would have the legal right to access anything and everything on that iPhone.

I strongly recommend you keep a distinct barrier between your personal and work-related information. It should be as if two different people are involved. Keep your work-related information away from your personal devices, and vice-versa.
