Wifi calling erratic

Basically at home I have a good wifi signal and poor ID Mobile signal (3 Network). Wifi calling works but is erratic. Phone is iPhone 5s.

The issues are

  1. Sometimes the phone is on ID mobile but with low signal strength and poor reception in use.
  2. Sometimes it goes to wifi calling
  3. Sometimes it says “no service” despite there being a good wifi signal

The other issue is that sometimes the battery to drains very quickly, from 100% to 40% overnight with no calls made. Other times the battery drops overnight is far less. I suspect that the phone is on wifi calling or no service and is trying to find a mobile signal.

My first question is what is deciding the connection choice between the mobile signal and wifi. Is it the iPhone ( Apple), ID Mobile or the 3 Network.

My second question is can I amend any settings so that at home it will automatically connect to wifi calling. I know about going to airplane mode and that does force wifi calling but then I leave the house and forget to switch off wifi calling.

Any help would be appreciated

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately the standard Apple documents do not deal with the specific questions which are

  1. What is deciding the connection choice between the mobile signal and wifi. Is it the iPhone ( Apple), ID Mobile or the 3 Network. I am asking this as I do not know where the problem lies. I now have a response from Id mobile and they say it is the phone. Is that the case?
  2. Can I amend any settings on the phone so that at home it will automatically connect to wifi calling or favour wifi over ID Mobile. I know about going to airplane mode and that does force wifi calling but then I leave the house and forget to switch off wifi calling.

With regard to battery life I have left the phone overnight on airplane mode so the phone is connected to wifi calling but (I believe) does not try to connect to the mobile network. The battery dropped by 3% in 10 hours. This implies to me that there is not a problem with the new battery fitted to the phone.

If I leave the phone connected to wifi calling with airplane mode off then in a similar time period it will drop by up to 60%. This implies to me that the phone is using battery trying to connect to the network. Is this likely to be the case?

Basically I am trying to sort out whether I can

a. resolve the issue

b. put up with it

c. Change network provider

d. Change phone.

I could easily spend a lot of money and still have the same problem.

jon
