iPhone7+ Stalls During Recovery Mode

What is going on with my iPhone 7 Plus; it is slightly over 1 year old and suddenly stopped working.

It will however open up in recovery mode when the Volume Down and Sleep/Wake buttons. It also shows up in the iTunes recovery set up window when I plug it in to my iMac. It also responds to the iMac, reports its serial number and will start the recovery process.

However, after a few seconds, the phone and the computer stop linking and I'm dead in the water. It does this whether I choose the "update" or the "recovery" option.

I have tried the recovery process on new and old Mac computers and with a variety of cables, operating systems, and downloaded iPhone firmware.
