Maps and text audio in car suddenly stop working

iPhone XR has worked beautifully with Bluetooth in my Subaru Crosstrek. After a year there is no longer audio directions on Maps and no audio for texts. What happened and how do I restore? Thanks

iPhone XR, iOS 13

Hello Bellyfatninja,

We understand you're no longer receiving turn-by-turn instructions for Maps or hearing your texts read when in your car. We'd like to help you get these features working again.

Try out these steps, testing your car connection after each one:

  1. See if Do Not Disturb While Driving is enabled: How to use Do Not Disturb While Driving. That feature might explain the issue with your texts not being read.
  2. Turn off Bluetooth in Settings > Bluetooth, wait for about 5 seconds, then turn it back on and pair with your car.
  3. If you've previously connected multiple phones to your car stereo, go to Settings > General > About > name, and type in a new name for your iPhone.
  4. Update your iPhone if there is an iOS update available: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
  5. Check with your car manufacturer to make sure your car stereo is using the latest firmware available.

Take care.
