full ipod shows up with NO MUSIC

Have a FULL 160gb iPod classic with 38142 songs, and Windows 10 Properties shows the iPod as full. However when I turn on the physical iPod it displays NO MUSIC, and when I attach it to iTunes NO songs show up in the music library. How do I get these songs back, as as far as I'm concerned they still exists on the full iPod? Assistance/guidance from the community would be greatly appreciated.

The device database is corrupt and so it shows as empty. If all your media is in your library as it should be you can simply restore the device and reload the media. If it is only on the device then see Recover media from an iPod as noted in the first section of the user tip. Given that the space remains used on the device this recovery method should go reasonably smoothly.

No pending sectors is good, however the 11,192 reallocs mean that you've used up about 2/3 of the device's resilience to disk surface errors. At some point this device might fail without warning.

Thank you for your timely and thorough response. It is appreciated. Tried a few things I'd like to share with you:

  1. Since I use Windows 10, I checked the status of the iPod drive via Properties, Tools, and Check commands. It showed the drive to be fully functional, with no need to Scan/Repair.
  2. Settings on the iPod showed 148.57GB used. But it showed up in Other; not Audio, Thus the caption NO MUSIC being displayed.
  3. Conducted the Hardrive diagnostic test you recommended. Here are the statistics:
  • Retracts: 8
  • Reallocs: 11192
  • Pending Sectors: 0
  • Poweron Hours: 222
  • Start/Stops: 7579
  • Temp - Current: 30C
  • Temp - Min: 14c
  • Temp - Max - 53C

Does this clarify more for you what the problem might be?

Again I appreciate your assistance and support.
