Final Cut Pro X is constantly lagging and freezing

What is this new Mac?

If it is a 13" MacBook Pro or 13" MacBook Air from 2020, there is a known problem.

They seem to lag and stall after a few minutes of working in FCP, and only a restart seems to clear things up... until it happens again.

We have to wait until Apple releases a fix for that.

But it looks like there may be something else. Probably you migrated everything from the old mac to the new, and that may have brought along whatever was causing problems.

Then there is not much one can do but wait. It is a known problem that requires an Apple fix (to FCP, to macOS, to the machine firmware or a combination of all of them, only Apple would know). I can tell you that Apple is aware of the problem (even though, as usual, it has not officially acknowledged as such).

Does it lag all the time, or just after running ok for a few minutes?

If it lags all the time, then there is something else, and that report I asked for could really help.

I used a 2014 MBP until recently, and it worked very nicely with FCP.

Macbook Pro 13'' 2015 too (Model 12,1) ! Everything seems normal and then freezes for 10-20 seconds. Sometimes, hard shutdown is required! Problem while:

1. Editing videos/ Exporting videos in imovie/fcpx/premiere pro/any editing app
2. Screenrecording with quicktime
3. Switching to fullscreen while playing video in safari or switching back from fullscreen.

Your problem seems to be completely different. Please start a new thread, and give exact details about your mac, OS version, FCP version....

What sort of video files are you using in FCP X?

Give as much info as possible concerning your machine and how you are working with it.
