Final Cut Pro X is constantly lagging and freezing

Hi!

I recently purchased the new Mac (2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5, 16 GB Memory, Catalina 10.15.4) and quickly noticed how my programs keep freezing (Photoshop, Final Cut Pro). I make sure to not have any external devices connected to the Mac and close every other application.

When I then use i.e. Final Cut Pro, every single command I do makes the program freeze for at least 20 or 30 seconds. Sometimes the whole program freezes and I have to force quit it.

I keep restarting both program and laptop and it's still the same. I experienced the same problem on my old Mac (Mid 2014) and simply assumed that it's because of its age. I had hoped that my new Mac would be able to handle the programs better. I'm pretty patient, but after a while of trying to work like that even I begin to loose my temper. :-( It's really hard to work like that.

I don't know much about Laptops and Computers, so I'm a little bit of a newbie here.

I hope some of you might know what the problem is!

What is this new Mac?

If it is a 13" MacBook Pro or 13" MacBook Air from 2020, there is a known problem.

They seem to lag and stall after a few minutes of working in FCP, and only a restart seems to clear things up... until it happens again.

We have to wait until Apple releases a fix for that.

But it looks like there may be something else. Probably you migrated everything from the old mac to the new, and that may have brought along whatever was causing problems.
