HomePod can’t find music

Sometimes I ask Siri to play certain music on my HomePod and it responds that it can’t find it in my library. I found the solution: delete your music library from iCloud and then rebuild it (in Music on my Mac, I select all songs and then choose Add to Library.

Yes it does that now.

I don’t think it will play music that was copied from CD’s that you have in your library. I’m not entirely sure but there’s some limits. I have Apple Music so I can’t test.

If you have an Apple Music subscription, then you can ask Siri to play anything from the Apple Music catalog, your library, and access features, like finding songs by lyrics and adding music to your library.

If you don't have an Apple Music membership, then you can ask Siri to play music from your music library, including your iTunes purchases.

Another time you might use Identify cloud status icons in your music library on your Mac or PC - Apple Support to check if there is content that hasn't matched or uploaded and address that in a more targeted fashion. Signing out of your Apple ID and back in again in the Home app for your HomePod can also refresh its copy of the library without you needing to delete anything.

I tried turning off the Personal Requests feature and resetting the HomePods but that made no difference. I found that it can find some music that I have purchased from iTunes, but not all - for example, I say "play Willie Nelson" and it responds "OK, here's some Willie Nelson" but it doesn't play anything. If I have an artist that has no purchased music (just music I uploaded from CD's) then it can't find any music by that artist. However, when I just say "play music" it plays non-purchased music and can even identify the song and artist that is currently playing. It seems like it has all the music but has lost the index to non-purchased music. I have tried to "Update the iTunes Library" and "Update Genius" but none of that works. I have over 17,000 songs in my library - is there a limit?
