Maybe. It depends on whether it was/is a managed device under Apple's Business Manager program.

Your employer should have released it and removed it from their MDM before allowing you to take it as your own.

If the MDM profile is active -- 99% it won't help. If it was removed from the MDM profile on your old work -- shouldn't be a problem. MDM management is handled through the internet based on device UDID, so erasing it won't remove management.
