how can I download all iMessages over the course of a year from one specific sender to a word document on a Windows PC? Worst case I can download to an older MAC. I just need to be able to export the messages into a searchable format.

It appears you are having an issue exporting data from the Messages app on a Mac.
There is no currently supported method for doing any kind of export via the Messages app on any device. In order to get the text of message threads into a Word doc, you would have to copy each message and paste it into the Word document.
