Has anyone found a way to use single column headers/footers in Pages 10?

Hi LLB,

Assuming you are talking about Page headers, and not Table Header rows, then unless it's been changed, you can use 'single column' headers by entering header text into only one of the three boxes available,

Entered in the left box, the header text will be aligned to the left page margin.

Entered in the right box,, the header text will be aligned to the right page margin.

Entered in the middle box, the header text will be centred horizontally on the page,

In all cases the text will flow over the implied box margins into the adjacent box(es) if necessary.

Barry

"…Is there a setting for this?"

Not that I'm aware of. Mine is an older version of Pages (post iWork '09, but not version 10), in which the automatic alignment work as I've described. That may have changed with Pages 10, but I've not seen mention of a setting to control it.

Here's an example showing a full-width header in the centre block. Page margins can be seen left and right of the body text.

The header will take one more character before bumping into the document margin and wrapping to a second row.

Thanks Barry - yes, I am referring to the page header and footer. Problem is when I insert text into one of the 3 default columns in the header and make that box as wide as possible, it still doesn't extend to the whole width of the document body margins. So, I put a line under the header to differentiate the header from the body text, but that line then ends short of the body text margin. I'm trying to format the header so it only has one single column, not the default 3.

My text input actually wraps in the single header box and doesn't seem to flow over the implied margins into adjacent boxes. Is there a setting for this?

Cheers Barry,

The thing I'm struggling to do is line up the "Here" in the header with the "It was a dark..." in the text body - I want both of these justified left, but just can't figure out how to get them to the same margin. Seems like such a fundamental feature - but missing from Pages - so frustrating.
