I have PDFs on my Mac in Books, and I want them on my iPhone

Is there a way sync my PDFs from Books on my Mac to my iPhoneX's Books app using a direct connection instead of iCloud.

It used to be possible to do it when syncing and backups were done through iTunes.

Thanks Lawrence....

Is there is no other way to do a direct transfer with usb connection other than using iCloud? I have massive files (multiple college textbooks) in pdf format. I have used iCloud in the past, but I run into problems. Most common is that even after downloading the pdf's, the will disappear from my phone, and I think its due to iCloud.
