I am using the most recent version of Pages (10.1) on Catalina. I can't open my custom templates. I know where they are on my mac but I can't get them to show in the My Templates section of pages.

If you are referring to older Pages '08, or Pages '09 templates, they may include functionality that is not supported in Pages 10/10.1 and it will then refuse to open them. If you can open them, then you would have to File menu : Save as Template… and add to the Template Chooser in the current Pages — to get them installed in the My Templates chooser category.
I have the same problem, but Pages won't open the locally present template file. So, I am unable to place it in 'my templates' again.
