When I reinstall from internet the computer asks me to tell what disc to install Mac OS on but doesn't offer any options for discs

When I reinstall from internet the computer asks me to tell what disc to install Mac OS on but doesn't offer any options for discs. What do I do...How to I get it started?

If you are downgrading the OS, then you will need to use Disk Utility to erase the physical drive as GUID partition and MacOS Extended (Journaled) before the installer will recognize a valid destination.

If you are trying to reinstall macOS over top of itself maybe the file system or partition table is corrupt and needs to be repaired with Disk Utility First Aid. If Filevault is enabled on the boot drive, then you may need to use Disk Utility to unlock the Filevault before the installer will show you the internal volume as a valid destination.


Or your hard drive/SSD is bad.
