icloud and iphone weren't sync'd - now all my contacts are deleted

Iphone deleted my contacts from the past 5 years. Apparently it wasn't backing up to icloud... then icloud randomly sync'd and old version of my Contacts up to the iphone. It deleted all my new contacts.

I don't really understand since I have gotten a new phone inbetween that time. I don't know where this old icloud back up came from.

As far as my phone is concerned, I have no Contacts in the "on my iphone" group in Contacts.

Any idea how I can get my contacts back? Am I screwed?

iPhone 11, iOS 13

iCloud doesn't randomly sync an old version of your contacts, if we knew what had happened it might help to put things back the way they should be.

Have you tried restoring from iCloud.com ➔ Settings ➔ Advanced ➔ Restore Contacts
