I am not able to connect to Macbook Pro via afp file sharing

I have a new Macbook Pro with Catalina.

I have file sharing on and set to share over

afp. I can connect to another Macbook Pro

on the local network from it just fine.

But I cannot connect from the other Macbook Pro

to this one. It does have a DCHP address assigned

by the router, as do the other machines on the local

network.

I get a dialog stating that shares are not available.

I have been using file sharing for some time without

too much problem. So I know to make sure that the

sharing is supposed to be over afp and not smb.

Is there something different with Catalina file sharing

that I might not be aware of?

One other issue is that I am looking over the list

of similar questions that pop up as I write in the

question. So I follow one of the links and don't

find an answer. THEN I try to get back to the original

page with the input field and list and CMD-[ (in

Firefox) doesn't step back to the former page.

Thank you for time and attention

SMB is windows file sharing.

It is now macOS file sharing, too.

File Sharing does not affect file formats, line endings, or anything else. The editor you use to create the file drives those concerns.

Word file formats are identical on Windows and macOS (and have been for about a decade or so).

Thank you for the info.

SMB is windows file sharing.

What can be expected from

that in the way of file formats

and such?

For instance a text file formatted

for unix line endings. Or, there used

to be differences between window

compatible file types and Mac compatible

file types from the same application; Word

comes to mind. Will use of SMB effect this?

Thank you again for the enlightenment.
