When I try to update Xcode from App Store, it tells me there is not enough space

when I try to update xcode from app store, it tells my there is no enough space.

25GB is free.

and sometimes, it starts downloading then stop saying it cannot update this app.


I am using Catalina 10.15.5

Free up more storage, and try again.


In general macOS usage, 25 GB free space is a ~full storage device.


Xcode requiring as much as 50 GB isn’t all that unusual, depending on local requirements.


Plus the transient storage necessary to unpack it.

There are third-party storage upgrades for 2017 and various earlier MacBook Air models, as well.
