Mac Mini not working with KVM Switch

Hey all,

I know there are a ton of different moving parts to this, but bear with me as I try and explain my situation.

I have a custom built PC and a mac mini I want to feed into the same display (Samsung Space 27" 2k).

I purchased a TESmart KVM switch so I could seamlessly switch between Mac and PC. My PC works like a charm, but the Mac mini does not recognize the monitor unless I unplug the HDMI and plug it in again. This has been a recurring issue with this Mac Mini/Monitor combo. I've just updated the firmware on the display and it still isn't working well.

What I've tried:

  • Using a USB C hub to bypass the HDMI port on the back of the Mac Mini
  • Purchasing a USB-C to HDMI cable to plug into the KVM.
  • Installing a fresh copy of Catalina on Mac Mini

It seems so confusing to me that there would be any issues with a simple HDMI out into a KVM switch.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
