iOS 13.6 overheating and battery drain issues

I have an iPhone SE 2nd gen and I’ve been experiencing surprisingly hot temperatures and performance issues. I tested it in Geekbench a few days ago and got a CPU score of 1321 and today I got 789. I don’t know if this is because of the later iOS builds . However when using 13.5.1 I got great performance. And long battery life.

Could this be just my iPhone or are others experiencing this as well?

This started out as a promising Q&A on the battery drain issues with 13.6, but the conversion took a turn and the issue was never addressed.

I downloaded 13.6 Thursday and since then my phone runs hot and my battery life is terrible. Anyone else having issues?

@cid176, dont worry bro.. there are other users having same issue, including me. my 6splus is warm while charging and during use. my OST is only 1hr20mins. not much background activity after updating to 13.6. seems no fix for the battery drain issue..already tried clean install, and other steps to troubleshoot.my battery health dropped from 100% to 97% after updating to 13.5.1.. apple support says my phone is working fine.

I've restarted my iPhone SE running iOS 13.6 twice too and it has not resolved the issue. I have had a massive drop-off in battery performance over the last two weeks or so. I've also done many other basic housekeeping tasks like closing apps and some location services to try to save battery. My battery health is 90% so that doesn't seem to be the problem. I'm hoping the next operating system release fixes this issue and quickly!

I am using my iPhone 11 Pro Max and I updated that like 3 days ago. Everything seemed fine in the first day but then the battery performance started getting worse. I have checked in the settings that the battery health is at 100% and I am pretty sure it ain’t my battery’s own problem. It is ridiculous that it legit drops 4% while I only used that for Facebook messenger for less than 10 minutes.

Guess Apple really need to think about what is going on with their developers like every iOS updates are full of bugs. I really miss the good old times like the iOS 6 and iOS 7.

Same problem with my iPhone SE2. My battery health was 100%, after upgrading to 13.6, the first day, the battery health became 99%, today the health is 98%.

I fully charged my phone, after leaving it for 2.5 hours, only 93% battery left for doing nothing, no background refresh, Apple Music, Facebook, Instagram were removed, not receiving messages during the time but still draining battery like that...

Now as need to work from home, so I leave it charging all the time, it is really such a pain...

"...Looks like an employee of Apple that still trying hard to convince unsatisfied consumer.

Now I’m in complete regret for updating into iOS 13.5.1. when I should just stay on factory iOS.. ."

and you appear to be someone who will not answer responses made to them, will not try offered remedies, has no idea who runs this forum, does not understand there's no such thing a "factory iOS" and is in the wrong thread - this is the 13.6 battery drain myth thread .

Don't upgrade to ios 13.6 is even worse on battery drain iphone 7 plus 256gb with new battery replaced about 1 year old . i had that same problem on 13.6 20% lost at 100% charge and sit on standby for about 7hr sleeping time. i was fine on ios 13.5 or 13.5.1 with just up to 10% loss battery power. i tried restore setup as new which i do on new version of ios release, like ios 12 upgrade to 13. problem still the same unusual battery drain. Decided to revert back to ios 13.5.1 better outcome loss of 6% of power from 100% charged. apple watch OS 6.2.8 on series 3 cellular is also draining within 9 hrs just by looking at the time. on watch os 6.2.6 i would get home from work and i would typically have 65-75% of power left but now 20-30% on watch os 6.2.8. if could, i would have revert the watchOS also, but can't. Hopefully new update 13.6.1 will fix issues. iphone 7 plus is the worst on battery drain than 6 plus, 6s plus and 8 plus did better on battery life on standby or usage.

That is definitely not normal, someone in this post suggested to power cycle the phone 2 times to resolve the issue. I have just done it and now getting off from charging, will check to see if it works.

Some websites suggest to restore all settings and claim working. However, this is not a good option for all people like me, as the Apple Pay will also be restored, I am in overseas, it is impossible for me to activate all my cards again unless going back to my home town. My phone is SE 2 which I bought it on the release date not long ago.

Some sites also suggested the Apple Music contributes the issue, so I removed it but then it looks like killing some features on my phone. I suspected Facebook or Instagram apps, so I removed all them, I only use the Web to login but I do not see much difference. It is quite painful for a smart phone not doing that smart need to compromise so much to save some battery life for daily use :(

"you must not post beta test reports here

Apple beta terms"

Unfortunately, the Terms and Conditions state clearly this is not an NDA issue. The OP (original poster) did not specify a bug in it's entirety (through non-disclosed code etc.)

"scripts, code snippets, utilities, configuration

profiles, sample code, troubleshooting applications and bug submission tools (“Seeding Tools”)."

The generalization of "overheating and battery drain issues" with the issue pursuant regardless of version (beta or not) is not a violation of the Terms. Maybe, to clarify, you need to read them. You as well quoted the OP (original poster) specifically yourself. If this were a violation your reply would be redacted as well. It's rather typical of automation to remove segments that people report regardless of their satisfactory of the terms and their accountability.

@peter_watt - Thanks, Peter, for the suggestions. You said: "There is no inbuilt problem with this 13.6 and the drain problem experienced by the few 13.5 users was "fixed" by 13.6. However, it is possible to have a bad update or bad apps."

It doesn't make sense to me that this problem has occurred on so many people's phones - 85 people so far have logged this issue in just a few days. So I'm hoping that Apple's tech guys can dig a bit deeper and try to resolve this, and fix with the next iOS update, ASAP. Most people report that battery drain has suddenly become an issue, and overheating is also a common complaint. If there are 85 complaints on this forum, there are probably many thousands or hundreds of thousands of affected users.

We shouldn't all have to go through the steps you recommend and restore our phones as a new device, as you recommend. Many users won't have the skills or confidence to do this, and would expect Apple to fix a problem that users didn't create. This issue is likely to affect customer loyalty and the value of the Apple and iPhone brands, so it makes good business sense for Apple to respond accordingly.
