iOS 13.6 overheating and battery drain issues

I have an iPhone SE 2nd gen and I’ve been experiencing surprisingly hot temperatures and performance issues. I tested it in Geekbench a few days ago and got a CPU score of 1321 and today I got 789. I don’t know if this is because of the later iOS builds . However when using 13.5.1 I got great performance. And long battery life.

Could this be just my iPhone or are others experiencing this as well?

This started out as a promising Q&A on the battery drain issues with 13.6, but the conversion took a turn and the issue was never addressed.

I downloaded 13.6 Thursday and since then my phone runs hot and my battery life is terrible. Anyone else having issues?

Hi All, anyone experiencing severe battery drain even after 13.6.1, pls chk your phone for mother board issue. especially older devices and experiencing battery drain issues after 13.5.1,. until 13.5 totally no issues with my phone. my 6splus had severe battery drain issues. i took to service center and they suspect mother board issue causing battery drain. its very expensive to replace. almost same price as phone price. also i was offered to one to one exchange, i have to pay additional 400dollars to get the same model. $489.00 to replace mother board. i chose to take it to mobile shops to repair mother board. anyways my phone is not under warranty now. under my own risk. once i get back my phone, i have to see the performance.

Then what would you say about me, I have iphone SE which I bought around 10 days ago and trust me the battery life is horrible after IOS 13.6 update. When I bought the phone the phone was on IOS 13.5 and it seemed excellent but after updating to IOS 13.6 the battery life as well as heating issue arised which I never had on any of my previous iphones. After updating to IOS 13.6.1 the heating issue seems to be fixed and the battery life remained same. Yesterday my phone was at 85% when I slept with wifi and mobile data off and today morning it came down to 75%, WTF? If it happened on android I never would have told but on IOS with this world leading optimisation, It was not acceptable apple. And Mr. Apple Employee, rather explaining us About idle battery drain considering my phone is only 10 days old. Try fixing it in the next update. It seems that whatever the problem is, you will always deny that and make excuse of this and that..... Apple you should definitely fix this goddamn issues in next update.

If Apple Support says there is nothing they can do for you, and if you are unwilling to wait for a fix, all you can do is purchase a different phone, whether that is a different iPhone or an Android.

That's not to belittle your issue, it's just the most pragmatic solution to the problem.

As other Apple users here, we have no idea of what issues are being worked on, or what may be fixed or changed in any upcoming iOS release.

I know this won’t help those who upgraded to 13.6, but for the last 2+ years I do not upgrade without doing significant research on bugs / performance degradations.

I begin with Forbes(.)com, as there is a columnist who has been pretty reliable. Recently I also began monitoring these postings.

Also Google “iOS 13.6 bugs”

Is it inconvenient (and unreasonable) to have to double check before upgrading?

Certainly.

Has it saved me from the issues people are reporting?

Definitely.

Yes, there are proper and improper ways to charge a phone. iPhone’s Optimised Battery Charging option in Battery Health exists for that reason, but it only helps passively for overnight charging. Users can do that actively by avoiding battery level going too low and too high (>80%) for a long duration. That’s why iPhone’s Optimised Battery Charging will not charge your phone over 80% until the time you‘re going to start using your phone based on your habit which the phone has learned.

Thanks! I also check with MacRumors (though I admit that lately I've been updating without checking). I did it more for my MacBook Air (because it's older) and assumed less need for the newer devices. But it seems as if Apple is releasing updates with less testing (at least for their older devices and older is relative these days) then they did five or so years back.
