I have an iPhone SE 2nd gen and I’ve been experiencing surprisingly hot temperatures and performance issues. I tested it in Geekbench a few days ago and got a CPU score of 1321 and today I got 789. I don’t know if this is because of the later iOS builds . However when using 13.5.1 I got great performance. And long battery life.
Could this be just my iPhone or are others experiencing this as well?

I have had the overheating problem on 3 of my family iPhones using iOS 13.6 with all apps up to date. In our case it was the Google Maps app that was causing the phone to overheat and drain the battery as described by others. Deleted the app and the iPhones now run cold and battery usage back to normal. I have nothing against the Google Maps but perhaps the current version is doing something it shouldn't. Try this solution for yourselves.
This is a super frustrating issue and should be given top priority at Apple.
While I appreciate the community putting heads together to come up with helpful fixes, restoring the phone to factory defaults and rebuilding the phone app by app and setting by setting is pretty much the exact opposite of the whole point of the platform and shouldn’t be looked at as any sort of a solution. “Fixes” like that make Apple lazy as it gives them a fake workaround to throw at people. This isn’t a problem with an odd 3rd party app - this is their update. The Netflix app does this. Wyze and Ring cam. Pretty much anything rendering video in 1080 or higher.
I godda go. My fingerprints are about to be scorched off and my battery is about to die.
I too was automatically updated and my new SE not only got wicked HOT but it actually gave me a WARNING that is was an emergency & to shut off my phone ..!!!
our Sarasota, Fl iPhone store is closed ( again) so I don’t know how to have it checked out. ???

I’ve called apple,twice. They’re no help. Both said to get it repaired at an apple store. I get about 25 minutes from a full charge. Prior to 13.4 it was perfect. Apple refuses to take any responsibility for the update drain issue. I’m now running 13.7. No better only worse.
my Data plan is useless now as I cannot take my device out of the house. Overnight drain is about 60%. What a sham.

98% health is fine even for brand new.
Phones are active even if closed.
My battery health hasn’t changed, it still shows 95%, but still the draining and overly heating is there since the update to iOS 13.6, that’s undeniable.
You may well be right.
Just don't wait for a fix for too long. ios14 may be the next one.
Confirmed that erasing the phone and reinstalling apps manually doesn’t help. I’m pretty sure that this issue is caused by ios 13.6 because i had been using the same apps on 13.5.1 just fine.
I have an iPhone XS Max and have the same issue. Looking for an update on when this will be resolved.
I updated to 13.6.1 and it did not help. Still high CPU utilization with nothing running.
20% drop over 500 charge cycles is normal, long term.
iPhone Battery and Performance
An increase is unusual but the battery monitor algorithm has improved since ios12 as far as I know.
Btw what I can say is I can’t use my iPhone and iPad without rebooting it regularly cause there must be some weird bugs that made me having to reboot them.
Support told me that the phone is ok, and I either replace the batteries for my money or I am waiting for IOS 14. This is a mockery.
