When 'it' tells you that you don't have enough space.. is it saying your phone's storage is full? I'm assuming so..

If you go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage, it should show you how much free space you have on your phone and categorize where the storage is being used.


If it's your phone that is full, buying more iCloud storage does not expand the storage capacity of your device. The only way that more iCloud storage will help you is if the majority of your phone storage is being taken up by photos. Then you can use iCloud Photos, which will back the photos up in iCloud and you can select an option on your phone to optimize storage. This will reduce the resolution of photos on your phone and free up some space.
