Cloud with arrow next to my folders won't go away

I transferred all my files to my new mac and each folder on my desktop has a cloud with an arrow pointing downwards next to the folder's name. I have tried clicking on it, manually downloading the folders, but the cloud icon won't go away. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you :)

Hello newyorkcity44,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like your folders on your desktop have a cloud symbol on them. We’re happy to provide some information.

From what you’re describing, it sounds like you have Desktop and Documents on for iCloud Drive. You can read more below:

As per the article https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mac-help/mchlp1774/10.14/mac/10.14

View iCloud status: When iCloud Desktop and Documents is turned on, your folders and files may appear with one of the following status indicators in the iCloud Status column:

  • In iCloud: The In iCloud status icon  tells you that the folder or file is only in iCloud. You must be connected to the Internet to work with the item, unless you download it to your Mac. Control-click the file, then choose Download Now.
