Saving email as pdf which contain pdf attachments

Hi, welcome to the Apple Users Community.

The randomness of the PDFs is actually caused by themselves. When the PDF is a single page it previews in the email body, when it is more than 1 page, only the icon shows.

I have to ask, are you saving these as PDF with the intention of printing in the future? I ask because there are options I can offer but this is a layered situation and I would need a little more information before offering a solution.

I confirm that I see the same behavior as you: print to pdf will show the previews of single page attachments, regardless of whether they are showing as Icons or not.

On sending a single-page PDF, you right-click on it and select View as Icon.

You can manually export a selected Mail message to PDF from the Mail file menu and it will result in a PDF with the attached PDF icon and filename shown. This may not be consistent dependent upon the Mail server from which the email originated.

Unfortunately no, I can't find any way at all to change the preview settings.

However if you use the save as PDF in the bottom left corner of the print window, as below

Using a PPD for a PDF printer as highlighted with a larger page size (Tabloid) will give you more area to fit your information. Then following the menu to "Open in Preview" in the PDF you can view the PDF before creating it, like a "Print Preview" with the ability to delete unnecessary pages in the sidebar (as below) before saving to PDF.

It really is not an ideal situation but it is a workaround and I sympathize with your plight.
