Unusual Activity On My iCloud Photos

A month or so ago, I was looking for pictures and videos that I knew were still stored on my phone and was unable to find them. I got distracted, but found myself looking for those same photos again tonight. I have my photos backing up automatically to iCloud and I never delete photos from my phone, so I found it unusual that I still wasn't able to find them.

Before purchasing iCloud to backup my photos, I had been backing them up to an external hard drive. Finding that I was missing many photos, I pulled out my hard drive to backup my most recent photos so that those are not lost as well. Only about half of the photos on my phone pulled up in Image Capture so I logged into iCloud directly to download them.

While scrolling through my Moments, I started noticing unusual descriptions on my photos. They have locations like Sultanpur Uttar Pradesh, Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Ngr Uttar Pradesh, Aksu Xinjiang, and Hotan Xinjiang. Needless to say, these photos were all taken in the United States and I have never been to any of these locations.

Are these locations evidence that somebody has hacked my iCloud account? Is this why my photos have disappeared, not only from iCloud but also my phone? Needless to say, I no longer feel comfortable keeping anything on my devices at this point.

Sounds like it might be server side error judging from the suggestions in this similar thread - Photos is placing a location of Qinghai,C… - Apple Community. If still concerned, try - Get Support.
