read receipts from viewing notifications

if i see an imessage notification does that cause a read receipt?

or do i need to open imessage and click on the conversation for the read receipt to show up on her iphone?

Imessage read receipt Hi guys, I just recently switched over from samsung to apple and transferred using the adroid to ios app. Realised that the imessage read receipt was turned off by default. Is this normal? Does the latest ios turn off read receipts by default? Im using iphone 12 pro max. Ios 14.4
