iPhone 11 freezes on contacts app, phone app and messages app

To everybody who’s still suffering, I found a partial solution, at least for my issue (which was the screen & app freezing as soon as I’d click a contact’s name in the Phone App).

1) Bring every apple device you own to one location so you can do the following steps on each device at the same time.

2) Go into the settings/system preferences of each device.

3) Find the iCloud settings for your iCloud account.

4) In the iCloud settings for each device, turn off “Contacts” (and if you have problems with the messages app, turn that off too).

4) Wait 15-20 minutes (while you’re waiting, log into iCloud’s web portal, go to contacts, and delete any duplicate contacts you may have).

5) After 15-20 minutes, turn contacts back on via the iCloud settings on on your phone first and then the rest of your devices.

This didn’t perfectly solve the problem, but I can at least call people now. It no longer freezes when I click their name, but it still freezes occasionally if I try to delete a contact.

Same here. Another great Apple bug after the last one which drained my battery literally within a few hours. What a shame for a 1000+$ phone. Sort the simple things before introducing crap nobody needs like a gazillion camera lenses to touch and scratch.

The same exact thing is happening to my phone and it started in June 2020. Messaging app crashes, freezes. Contacts app crashes and freezes, I can’t search for contacts and it won’t save contacts. I’ve reset my entire phone after trying to reset just the apps and it is still happening. It’s very frustrating and nothing has helped!!!

Specifically, we believe the only step you haven't taken is to uninstall and reinstall the app from the App Store. Since you're unable to take this step with your Messages app it may be necessary to complete a restore to isolate this issue, however, we have many ways that you can save your data. Once your information is safe, we do recommend restoring your device as new using iTunes. Testing these apps as new will help isolate the issue. Me too. My iPhone 11Pro Contacts freeze whenever I add or edit a contact. It stays frozen for 1-2 minutes, or sometimes requires a complete reboot. I have found no solution for a year. It is maddening.

Experiencing this same issue on an iPhone 8 Plus running iOS 13.7 and the problem persists after a forced reboot, several cycles of turning contact syncing on/off via iCloud, as well as a complete restore with upgrade to 14.1.

Originally, on 13.7, trying to open a contact would freeze the phone app. So, I turned off iCloud contact syncing on the iPhone, backed up, and then did a hard restore through Finder (with a cable connected to my Macbook Pro). After restoring/updating to 14.1, I can now open a specific contact, but adding a contact or deleting an existing contact STILL freezes the phone app.

I have also experienced intermittent issues with the Messages app like the OP.

THIS IS AN ICLOUD PROBLEM. NEED REAL TECH SUPPORT. NOT THE "Turn your phone off and back on" TECH SUPPORT.

It seems like a few people have had this issue for years, and there isn't a single solution posted anywhere. COME ON APPLE!!!!!

Experiencing the same issue on iPhone 11 Pro Max (13.6.1) for countless months now. Contacts freeze CONSTANTLY, and if I try to edit a contact, the Contact app auto-refreshes with the OLD data. I've just realized that I've also lost some data that I added into the Note section on several different contacts. I am beyond frustrated.

I have exactly the same issues on my iPhone 11, my 6s works perfectly.

Going into 2021 and Apple still have not solved this awful bug in the iPhone 11. I’m very disappointed especially as this phone is so expensive.

I've had this issue from ios 13 to 14.0.1

I have the same issue on phone and contacts app and on IOS 14.2.

is there a resolution?
