Text message app opening up old conversations

Let's begin by trying the following basic troubleshooting steps:

1 - Quit the Messages app on your iPhone with these steps:.How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

2 - Restart your iPhone & test again. 

If the issue persists, let us know the following:

• Is this happening with one particular contact or multiple? Are these iMessage conversations or SMS conversations?

• Are the messages in the conversation out of order, or is the conversation opening to the incorrect point in the conversation history?

• When you receive the notification, are you replying from the lock screen? If you're unsure, this article shows you how you can do so under the "Reply from the Lock screen" section: Use Messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

• If you open Messages without using the Notification, is the conversation still out of order?

• When you go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud, do you have Messages turned on or off at this time?

Thanks for getting back to us with those additional details. It looks like you're having this issue with multiple contacts when you open the message from notifications, it goes to the wrong point of conversation. We'd be happy to continue working on this with you.

You've mentioned before that you run the latest version of iOS. Just to double check, when you navigate to: Settings > General > Software Update do you see any available updates?
