Slow Motion Playback using Quicktime

Can I play an entire clip in slow motion in Quicktime without having to continually hold down keys? I have a medical 5 minute movie clip that I want to study in slow motion. I can figure out how to loop it, but where are the slow motion controls? If this can not be done, can anyone recommend a different free video player that this can be accomplished on? I thought about the VLC player. Can I do it there?

HI, and Thanks for you help. My hospitals IT & S people also suggested VLC player. I have installed it and it is easy to use with the drop down menu. I am disappointed in Apple Quicktime people in that they haver not allowed us to utilize these functions. I wonder why? Someone tried to tell me to transfer this video to iMovie and that maybe I could do it there. But I do not want to edit it, just play it. It was also suggested I burn it to a dvd and then put it in my dvd player. Thank God I kept it! I would like to state I do not need this function on my Apple TV. Although it would be nice there also. I wonder why Apple thought it was acceptable to remove this function from Quicktime on my Powerbook?
