Permanent removal of Sophos AV

How do I stop Sophos from reappearing. I've removed it dozens of times using the Sophos removal option in the installed app and also downloaded the removal tool from the Sophos website.

I've seen various articles mention that you should go into the library folder and delete from there and I've looked but have never had a folder structure / path that matches the articles.

I've tried deleting anything that mentions AV in the library but within a day or two Sophos is back and I get the annoying pop-up about giving it full permissions.

It is driving me mad! any help would be much appreciated.

I finally figured out what caused this. I enrolled my MacBook into my company to get access to work mail, which meant that policies were applied that require Sophos, hence removal worked fine for a day or two but then Sophos got reinstalled when a sync occurred.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions, was greatly appreciated.

Perhaps the following may discover whatever junk happened to gain

access to your macOS, whenever/whatever brought Sophos AV into the

mix. Almost like something else may be masquerading there, instead?

Had thought you could get & try EtreCheck (free version/download) as

that probably may show some anomalous cause. Or left-over 'funkware

debris' that cannot be removed by Sopho's own re-moval tools.

"EtreCheck is a FREE simple little diagnostic tool to display the

important details of your system configuration, and allow you

to copy that information to the Clipboard. ~ It is meant to be

used to share with Apple Support Communities to help people

help you with your Mac. ~ It will not display any personal info.."

EtreCheck can generate a report of your system & leaves nothing

to cause issues. The report can tell quite a bit about Mac's status.

This can help troubleshoot/remove items that can affect macOS.

A report with detail of what's happening in mac is highly desired.

..Enter the report here using the Icon in bottom of reply window;

one that looks like a word document. So we can read it online.

• About EtreCheck - details, how it works, & more info

https://etrecheck.com/

These etrecheck reports are lengthy; this allows larger file copy

to open in separate window, from a box inside this space..

Good luck & happy computing!🌞

Those are fine reasons for never installing; however you've the item in there anyway.

Should work, if not the same instructions from article you've tried; give it another go..

In some situations you may be unable to run the built-in Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac (SAV for Mac) uninstaller.

This article provides a standalone tool to remove the installation of Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac

Common reasons for needing this tool are:

  • If the product has been deleted (e.g., dragged to the Trash) rather than correctly uninstalled.
  • Where the uninstaller is unable to run due to a corrupted receipt file.

"Download, expand, and run the applicable uninstaller for the Sophos product you installed."

Most useful items work in preventative management capacity: Malwarebytes for mac + Etrecheck.

Good luck & happy trails!🌞🎣
