Apple Podcasts Not updating for some users

FYI - Apple Podcasts pages are not updating for some users.

If your latest episode was published over 6 hours ago and not showing you are likely part of this issue.

First - check your RSS feed and if the episode is live in the feed you are likely ok.

Second - Validate your RSS feed at one of these two places:

https://castfeedvalidator.com

https://podba.se/validate/

If your feed is valid and your latest episode is in the feed - then it is on Apple's side and they are looking into this issue over all.

Nothing you need to (or can) do - but NOTE - Anyone subscribed to your podcast is getting the latest episode just fine. It is only not showing on the Apple Podcasts page.

Again this is just happening to a small % of shows - and it is across all Podcast hosts. But if your show is one - feel free to post your RSS feed URL and your Apple Podcasts URL below. That will give Apple more to look at.

Apple just said it is fixed - and anyone not seeing their latest episode and have not published anything new since August 7th - should go into their Apple Podcasts Connect account now and click on "Refresh Feed" and their show should then update "shortly" - which I guess means 1 to 3 hours?

I would recommend - if you are not seeing your latest episode regardless of when you last published an episode (outside of a <6 hours ago) - just go in and click on "Refresh Feed" in your Apple Podcasts Connect account.

The feed URL leads to a feed with minor problems - your 'itunes:explicit' tags should read 'no' or 'clean', not 'false'. I'm surposed that there is no complaint about the green tick characters - ✅ - which I would have thought weren't acceptable in XML but in fact they don't seem to be a problem.

Podcasts Connect is saying the feed is 'prepared for submission', meaning it's OK. However you do have an Apple Podcasts page - this would prevent further validation of the feed, so that must be running off a different feed. I notice it hasn't been updated for months whereas there are a lot of later episodes in the feed you link to.

Your best bet would be to locate the feed in use by Apple Podcasts and update that with the new episodes, or use the procedure to transfer the Store to using the feed you linked to (see http://wilmut.uk/move). If you have a Mac or Windows running iTunes rather than Apple Podcasts, go to the page you link to above and then to iTunes. Subscribe, control- or right-click on the name of the podcast in the subscription list, and choose 'Copy Podcast URL' or equivalent. This doesn't work in Apple Podcasts which is what I'm using so I can't do it.

However I notice that when subscribing the list of episodes matches those in the feed you link to, which suggests it is the same feed. The error message you illustrate suggests it's another validator, not Apple, and all this suggests that you can ignore it. The iTunes Store appears not to be updating, so try refreshing the feed from your Podcasts Connect page. (You won't be able to validate the feed there if it's already been submitted.)

This is normal. Subscribers read the feed directly and so see a new episode pretty well immediately. The Store caches the feeds and visits them in some sort of rotation. How long it takes for a new episode to appear depends on where you are in thecycle, but 1-2 days is quite usual. As the episode appears when subscribing it should appear in the Store in the next day or two.

The latest episode was posted less than 24 hours ago: it's qjuite normal for an episode to taker anything up to two days to appear, occasionally more. The Podcasts app/iTunes Store caches the feeds (there are many thousands) and visits them in some sort of rotation to check for updates. How long it takes for an episode to appear depends on where you are in the cycle. The episode does appear when subscribing (subscribers read the feed directly and the Store is not involved) so it should appear within a day or so.

If the episode 'Jason Mulhall | The Power of Trial and Error & Perseverance' is the one you are referring to, this is visible in the iTuns Store/Podcasts page and in the app both when browsing and subscribing. It's evidently very recent: it'ds quite common for new episodes not to show up in the Store/Browse for up to two days or so, though they wojld appear quickly for subscribers (who read the feed directly): the Store caches the feeds and visits them in some sort of rotation.

If there is another episode which is not showing, or you have another query about this:

  1. Please start a new thread. Tacking onto an old one complicates matters and may even result in your not being noticed.
  2. Post the URL of your feed. It's possible to find out very little without being able to examine the feed, and in Catalina it can't be detected from the app.

This means that either the URL you submitted had an error in it, or that it was correct but there is no file at that address. So you need to check the URL - enter it into a browser and see what happens. I'd be happy to check it for you but I'm not going to laboriously type out the URL: from your image (which doesn't look complete anyway) so you would need to post the feed URL - something you should always do when you have a query. Incidentally it's preferable to start a new thread when you have a problem rather than tacking onto an old one - you stand a better chance of being noticed.
