how to switch to external microphone on macbook pro 2020

is there a way to swith to external audio on the MacBook Pro 2020.. The sound settings does not provide an alternative to the built-in microphone.

Two things need to happen before you have an alternate Microphone listed in INPUT in System Preferences.
