bluetooth not working in mac recovery mode

Want to reinstall macOS Catalina: system not functioning normally. Use Command/R for recovery mode. Get screen indicating no wireless mouse/keyboard. Restart normally and everything working fine. Tried Command/Option/R for recovery with same results: will not recognize KB/mouse. Resart again with power button and everything working. Any ideas why BT will not work in Recovery?

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.15

Possibly the battery in the mouse needs charging or you need to re-pair the mouse. This is an annoying problem that sometimes happens. I keep a wired mouse and keyboard handy just in case. The problem has always been temporary.
