iphone X, unable to lock screen

i have an iphone x and my power button recently stopped working. not a hardware issue, power button works for sos and restarting. I can't use assistive touch for the lock screen but other functions work. it just seems like I am not able to lock the screen unless I sit and wait for it to auto lock
