can I get a "retired" 2009 Samsung external monitor to run as a display screen for newer Mac laptops, either Mac Air or MacBookPro?

I have a 2009 Samsung monitor, Model code LS24MYKAB7A/ZA with connector port choices DVI IN or RGB IN. Up until 5 years ago I used it as a second larger display screen with my Mac laptop, MacBook Pro, and forget how it was connected. I now have two newer MAC laptops, Mac Air with Mojave OS (2019 purchase) and MacBookPro with High Sierra OS (2016? purchase). Newer OS might eliminate some legacy aps, etc, so not upgrading OS at this time.

  1. Are either or both laptops compatible?

a. Samsung gave me a phone number of JJ Parts to get DVI and/or RGB adapter to USB or USB-C ports on the newer laptops. Do I chose one? Or do I need both?

b. Samsung warned me that I could get adapters probably, but that Apple no longer cooperates with the Samsung drivers (?). So I need to check with Apple whether there is a software/firmware? download that will create compatible connection from computer to monitor.

Is a download to create compatible connection from old monitor to new laptops available? Or am I wasting my time? Is patching old and new together a fool's errand?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.13
