Macbook Air 2020 i3 temperature

Hey,

I just got my MacBook Air 2020 i3 yesterday and im pretty sure it gets too hot?

Idle temperature is around 50-60 C with 60-90% (mostly around 70%) of the cpu free. If I just browse the internet with 1-3 tabs open it goes up to around 70C, and sometimes 80C. My surroundings are around 25-30C and I sit like 5 meters away from an open door, so it is also pretty ventilated.

Is this normal or should I go down to the apple store with it?

And what should the temperature be when I have a few tabs open?

I get temps like that on my i3. TBH I'm totally disappointed with this laptop. Why they couldn't just put a heat sink to the fan is just completely beyond me. Apple always state they only make products they love -really? I mean are Apple really proud of a £1000 laptop that gets far too hot and reduces performance simply because they refused to include a proper heat sink? And to all the people that say "it isn't built for for heavy use" I get hot temps simply scrolling through IGN on one tab on Safari! This is a £1000 laptop!!!

Those temps are normal. It really depends on what's on those 'few tabs'. If there are ads with video streams or poorly coded websites, a web page can use a pretty big chunk of CPU/GPU activity and the temps will go up. Under heavy loads, temps can go to 100 °C or higher.

Your Mac's fans will keep the silicon cool enough for safety, and if they cannot then the Mac will throttle back the CPU/GPU to reduce the load.
