No keyboard appears in iMessage group

Ive had a problem for a couple of weeks now. What happened first was that when I entered me & my friends imessage groupchat, no keyboard appeared. Also, I couldnt leave the group, all options were ”grey” and unclickable.

I asked my friend to try and delete me from the group, and then add me again. Then it worked fine to write in the group again. But when I exit the app and then enter again, same thing all over again. Have been added/deleted maybe 10 times now.

I have tried:

Deactivate imessage, turn off iphone - turn on - activate imessage.
As written above, dropped from the group and added again.
Changing icloud password.

Any thoughts here at all? Super frustrating..

oh, and also, it is a 5 yr old group with a lot of messages/pictures etc.

Everyone has an iphone and can write, leave group and has no other problems.

But i deleted the whole conversation, without leaving it. Now it works, but all history is gone ofcourse.

We're glad to hear you're fully updated. Can you tell us which element works with the others in the group? Is it the text bar or the option to Leave Group?

Does your group have any non-iPhone users in it? If so, the Leave Group option is not available for iPhone users that are a part of the group.

If the issue is only with the keyboard, do you have any third-party keyboards installed? If so, are you able to temporarily remove these and test to see if the thread woks as intended? The steps to remove them are found here.

About the keyboards settings on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

You might also want to reset the Keyboard Dictionary. Do that by gong to General > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary.

If the issue persists beyond that, we suggest backing up, then resetting your settings.

It's looks like your've done quite a bit of troubleshooting on your own to fix the issue with your group thread.

Have you made sure that your device is using the latest version of iOS?

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Also, if the option to leave the group is grey, this is because there are non-iMessage users that are in the group.

Latest update - yes. But it works for everyone else in the group? Why would it be a problem for me?
