When I visit us.etrade.com I don't see the graphics for the page. Safari and Chrome both say the certificate is invalid. I have visited these sites without a problem before. Why is this a problem now?

Clear your Temporary Internet Files:

Boot into Safe Mode and then Clear your Temporary Internet Files of Safari:

  • Booting into Safe Mode:

[hold down shift upon boot until the login screen appears]. See if this is still an issue. Safe Mode lets items run as default, without changes whatsoever. That is possible because caches of your macOS are temporarily disabled while in Safe Mode

  • Clearing your Temporary Internet Files (Cookies & Cache) of Safari:

Cookies perform remembrance of certain site-entered data. Whereas Cache keeps a snapshot of the last time you visited a site.  Use this Link: Clearing History and Cache - Apple Communities

If you want to consider upgrading the OS to get a newer version of Safari, check the computer requirements shown in each link to see if your computer is capable of running that OS version.

Also check to make sure there is a compatible driver for your printer.

Do a backup before installing, preferable 2 backups on 2 different drives.

If you are still on El Capitan (10.11.6), then your version of Safari will not have kept up with the continuously evolving changes in Internet security, and eTrade may have implemented current security on their site beyond the ability of the older Safari. If you are using an old bookmark that does not reference the secure URI (https) then I suggest you manually use that in the address bar to see if that changes the connection capability as below:

which was done from Safari 13.1.2 on macOS Mojave 10.14.6.
