Hi there toon261,

It looks like you have a second hand Mac that needs to have macOS installed. MacOS would be installed using recovery if the Mac doesnt have any macOS installed now. Learn how here: How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery.

If your Mac can already start up and has macOS installed, you can update to the most recent macOS version. Learn how to upgrade here: How to upgrade to OS X El Capitan.

We hope this helps!

Right now, either way until I get a reply from you, you need to start with locating install discs to install Mac OS X onto that 2008 MacBook, first.

You will need to find Mac OS X 10.6.3 Snow Leopard full install discs to start the Mac OS X install process.

Try Amazon or eBay for a full set of Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3 install this Mac OS first.

You will need to find, purchase and install this set of discs, first!

Use these disc to first to install Mac OS X 10.6.3.

Once Mac OS X 10.6.3 is installed, then, use the Mac OS Software Update feature in the System Preferences to upgrade that Mac to Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

Once Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard is installed, from MacOS X 10.6.8, If an early or mid 2008 MacBook, these MacBook models can ONLY upgrade to Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 .

This is a pay upgrade that you can get an Apple Mac App Store online paid download code here below.

This Mac OS X version is the highest Mac OS X version these early 2008 MacBooks can go.

If you have an aluminium cased 2008 MacBook, once Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard is installed, these MacBooks can be directly upgraded to either Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 OR Mac OS X El Capitán 10.11.6.
