Low volume on airpods with ipod nano (only)

My airpods work great with my iphone. Volume is too high to listen to on its highest setting. On my ipod however it is about half as high at full volume. I spend a lot of time mowing so it is hard to hear at this low volume over the sound of the mower. I have an older pair that I also use and it works fine (but the battery doesn't last a full mowing day, hence the second pair).

Can anyone tell me how to fix this volume issue? I have tried everything I have seen on the community and online so far but nothing works so far.

Hello Cfox1959,

It sounds like your AirPods have low volume only when connecting to your iPod nano, when you AirPods are connected to your iPhone the volume works normally. You can set a volume limit on your devices, this will cap the volume even when it appears to be turned up to max volume.

"Q. How do I change the Volume Limit?

A. On an iPod nano, iPod classic, iPod touch, iPad or iPhone, you can adjust the maximum volume by going into your Settings menu. On an iPod shuffle, adjust the volume to the desired maximum volume. Connect your iPod shuffle to iTunes and select "Limit maximum volume". Drag the slider to the desired maximum volume. For more information about how to set your Volume Limit, please see your User Guide."

Hello Cfox1959,

Thank you for explaining that you have two sets of AirPods but the new ones have low audio with your iPod nano but the others do not. You should contact Apple Support for next steps.

Thanks for replying Marcus. No, I have two sets...on my old pair the volume is high, on the new one the volume is about 50-70% of maximum. I have tried all the maximum limit suggestions on this site, all the resets. The new airpods work fine on the iphone....only this one set does not go to maximum on the ipod while the older version does go to maximum. So it is an issue between the new pair and the ipod for some reason. I have rebooted both and reconnected and all the various suggestions other people have made. But this set just won't go to max on the ipod.
