Can’t click on misspelled words!

Hello! Since the last or second to last update I am unable to click on a misspelled word. Let me clarify. If I spell a work incorrectly It’l show me by placing the redlines underneath of the word. When I go to click on that word it will either put the cursor to the left or right of the word but never highlights the misspelled word to give me a correct spelling option. Well, I shouldn’t say never. Maybe one out of ten times it’ll actually highlight the word but typically it just moves the cursor. So the only way I can get a correct word suggestion is by selecting the word and hitting “replace.”

It’s super frustrating. Is anyone else having this issue?

iPhone XR, iOS 13

Hi there Weavah312,

We're happy to help with this trouble of not being able to click on misspelled words. Do you have Auto-Correction and predictive text enabled on your iPhone? If not, get the steps to set that up here:

How to use Auto-Correction and predictive text on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

These features should help with this trouble you're having.

Feel free to reach back out if you have any questions.

Cheers!

Weavah312 and All:

This issue occurs on iPads as well.

Something in the recognition of touch gestures changed with iPadOS 14.0.

After that, it is far more difficult to get the OS to allow us to access the Spelling Correction. Usually, we have to Select the word and choose Replace…

Yes. Occasionally, the old behavior will show up, but very seldom.

Since the on-screen keyboard does not provide Arrow keys, “backing up” via such is not an option using such.

Even using the fine control from touch-n-holding the space key can get us to the last character of a word, but I have never seen that bring up a spelling correction list.

It is a frustrating change, but I have simply been working around it.

It sounds like we need to provide Apple with iPadOS and iOS Feedback!
