iCloud not syncing desktop and documents

I'm struggling to sync my MacBook with my iCloud Drive. Besides desktop and documents everything seems to be in sync, but these two folders remain empty on my mac. In the Finder in the iCloud section they are showing up as empty folders with a dotted iCloud icon.

Can someone help me and tell me, what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks!!!

Hello JuliusMoehring,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

We see you're having an issue with your Desktop files and Documents folder syncing through iCloud Drive. Let's check into some options.

We have an article here for how to check that your Desktop and Documents folders are set up for sync: Add your Desktop and Documents files to iCloud Drive

In the article, there is a section titled 'Turn on Desktop and Documents' we'd like you to try.

You can also ensure you've updated to the newest version of macOS, connected to a good known working network, and that you're signed into the correct Apple ID on each device for iCloud.

Hope you have a great rest of your day!
