macbook air 2020 heat and annoying fans

hey all.

I recently purchased a 2020 macbook air i5 and it was working great, untill the fans started up. I find them very annoying and hard to focus with and they seem to come on with only 10 or so minutes of usuage. i dont have too many programs open, usually only one to three. im just looking for some guidance, because while i like the compter, im not sure if I can deal with the fans running 24/7. should I get a $30 cooling mat? a macbook pro instead? any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
