Length of tones on phone number buttons when making a regular phone call; they are too short!

What happened to the phone number buttons holding their tones for as long as you pushed them, now they are really short, like half a second. I can make a phone call okay, but as soon as I'm in a menu and push these buttons to select my options, the tones are super short, and it's like automated systems can't recognize what I'm selecting.

I want to change this back! Is there a way?
