I'm on the point of going crazy. Apple Music keeps opening automatically. Sometimes repeatedly. I'm running Catalina 10.15.6 on a 2012 iMac. I've been using Macs for 30 years but if can't resolve this issue I'll just have to dump it and get a PC. Help! - Eugene

Just to toss this in the general tech troubleshooting should others be searching for the same problem: I had the same problem, apple Music keep popping up seconds after I closed the app. Went in to a massive troubleshooting mode to figure it out only to find out later that the wife had spilled water on the keyboard and the weird signals coming in from a keyboard on the fritz was somehow causing apple music to launch. Changed keyboards, problem disappeared. If you have this problem, check your USB devices. The problem could be there...
Hi Ewan, the "Overkill" app I mentioned above claims to handle the Photos problem as well. If you check out the link above it says you can "add photos to the list" meaning list of apps to shut down. It also says these actions can be easily suspended so your work-flow is not impeded. I haven't tried overkill myself but you might like to pursue it further. I hope it works out for you.
P.S. Did you know that Ewan is the Welsh for Eugene. (Eoghan is the Irish). A friend of mine called his two sons Ewan and Owen. He was highly amused to hear that they were basically the same name.

If you want to setup Photos to never open unless you manually launch it do the following;
1 - connect an iPhone or camera to your Mac with its USB cable.
2 - launch Image Capture.
3 - in the bottom of the left hand pane select "No Application" in the Connecting this camera opens: menu
That will set it up for any iPhone, camera or memory card.

It happened on my first MacBook about month ago but I do not use it often so I just ignored.
Now it happens on my second MBP and it **** me out.
It is unbelievable that the only solution is a 3rd-party app.

After sometime, it has auto-stopped popping up for now. While it was happening, I just minimized the Apple Music as quitting it did not help.
It's a bug And a feature. So sad Apple killed off the desktop unit.

If you press F8, or play/pause button, Apple Music will be opened
Thanks, Old Toad. It took me a while to do this because I think Image Capture's tool layout might have changed in Big Sur from what you show. I found the tool along the top of the window. Anyhow, it worked.
