Facebook Messenger notification badge no longer showing up with new messages

Ever since about two weeks ago, my Messenger app stopped showing the badge icon on it to alert me that a new message had been received. If I turn on other forms of notifications for the app, it will appear. But I only want the red badge so when I see my home screen I know. I do not want the lock screen, banners, notification center banners, or regular banners. I am including a screenshot of how my notifications are configured, but will not work.

Are others experiencing this again? I've seen it has been an issue in the past. Nothing I've tried has fixed it (restart iPhone, turn notifications on & off, delete/reinstall app, update firmware, update app)
