How to copy automation to a different track without copying the notes in the track

I select automation in a track (volume) and then paste to a different track.

The copied automation shows up in the other track but the other content of the track is also pasted.

I am unable to just paste the automation. What am I missing?

Copy automation between tracks:

  1. In Logic Pro, hold down Shift while dragging a selection within the automation area.
  2. Choose Edit > Copy (or use the corresponding key command).
  3. Select the track you want to copy the automation to.
  4. Choose Edit > Paste (or use the corresponding key command).
